nigerian dwarf goats and laying hens
On her blog at homeonmagnoliahill.com, Sarah Hill shares her firsthand farm experiences and tips on how to do everything from choosing a breeder for baby goats to building your own chicken coop, like this one she constructed herself. Photos by Collin Richie

We've got goats!

These cute, sweet, little critters sure do make for entertaining pets and fantastic additions to any farmstead or homestead. These compact food converting wonders are able to produce some of the most versatile and nutritious food (milk) there ever was!

Yes! Nigerian Dwarf goats' milk is some of the richest and most nutrient dense out there! Great for anything from delicious, homemade mozzerela to skin soothing, essential oil infused goats' milk soaps!

At Magnolia Hill Farm, we breed our goats for great health, excellent milk production, dosile temperment, and proper overall structure. We believe in doing our part to constanlty improve the already outstanding Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goat breed.

Check out our Magnolia Hill Farm Page for the latest updates on our herd, available goats, and our upcoming breeding/kidding schedule!

Sweet Charlie (one of our bottle babies) loves to Sweet Charlie (one of our bottle babies) loves to follow me for walks, around the house, outside, or anywhere really 🥰

She is 1 of 4 of Biscuit’s kids this year, and sister to Penny, our special girl.

Penny is the runt of the 4, and is still not out of the woods at 2 weeks old. She is having to be tube fed every 3-4 hours and has been unable to gain weight for reasons we are still unsure. We have pretty much been on a path at one step forward and two steps back since her birthday. Having days that are good, followed by days where I wasn’t sure if she would still be with us the next time I checked on her.

She is 1/3 the size of her sister (maybe even a little smaller), but she still has such a will to keep going❤️

Penny is a fighter, and so am I, and she is getting the very best I can give with hopes she will pull through and get to live a long healthy life here on our farm❤️

As always, we truly feel blessed for the time we have with her and are taking it all in stride; thankful for all that we are learning and preparing us for our future.

If you think about it, please pray for our little Penny. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Watch ‘til the end to see what it’s all about Watch ‘til the end to see what it’s all about 🥰

This momma heart is so full after this year’s Louisiana South Central District 4H show! We all came home with deeper friendships, greater bonds with our animals, lessons galore, and lots and lots of dirty show clothes! Now if I can just talk my oldest @_brax06 into showing livestock, along with competing in 4H Shotgun shooting sports 😘

If you are able, get your kiddos involved in 4H. I could go on and on about the value of this organization for kiddos and their families, but words just don’t do enough to describe.

If you’re on the fence about it, just go watch a show…watch the kids, the families, and the animals. You’ll see it, feel it, and know exactly what I’m trying to say ❤️

If livestock isn’t an option for you, there are SO many facets to 4H that truly can be valuable to any lifestyle and promote growth in children that is hard to find in many places.

We love our @louisiana4h @eastfeliciana4h more than words can say!

What an amazing day at our parish 4H show! Watchin What an amazing day at our parish 4H show! Watching these kiddos learn something every time they set foot in the ring, and even more ring side, will always bless my momma heart beyond words ❤️ The friendships, camaraderie, and sportsmanship at these events are immeasurable!

Grady and Tuk Tuk (N GoatFarm PB LoverBoy *B) came home with 3rd in goat showmanship and Overall Supreme Buck! What an amazing experience for both of them and Grady is so excited about his new buckle and is truly enjoying (and being so patient with) Tuk Tuk’s fun little young buck personality! It was Grady’s first time in a ring with a buck and he handled it better than I could’ve imagined ❤️

Now he’s headed back for his first year showing dairy cattle, with sweet Loretta, 4 month old jersey heifer 🤗 Prayers for lots of fun and knowledge along the way!
